Military Career

Joining Up

A few months after graduating high school in a small town, I decided I wanted to do something to become a part of something larger than myself. I had a co-worker who was in the National Guard, and after talking to him for some time I decided to go talk to the local recruiter. It didn't take much convincing until I was ready to sign up. I joined November 10th 2014 as a 12C Bridge Crewmember

First Few Years

The first few years flew by. I attended basic training as all soldiers do. Once I got to my unit, we started off with annual training, where I received my first army achievement medal. I would receive two more over the following years.

During Covid

During Covid, I volunteered to help with the Detroit area's food banks. For a year, we worked to package and palletize boxes for those who needed them. We worked with Gleaners Food Bank. After it was all said and done, I received my fourth Army Achievement Medal, as well as a leader of recommendation from my OIC NCOIC and Gleaners Food Bank.

Currently

I am a Sergeant in the position of squad leader, I also act as the unit career counselor (providing benefit information and assisting soldiers with re-enlistments or ets.) I have been in just over 10 years and plan to stay until 20.

My experience in the Military has taught me to be resilient, work hard, and build trust with others. It has given me the foundation of a good leader and has helped me become more coachable.
